Mistaking Nepal for Japan

An odd error for someone as geographically aware as Bottesini. He had the ability to draw from memory a highly accurate world map, correctly placing and naming most nations and their capitals.

One can only surmise that either Bottesini's wishful thinking or some strange plot by his enemies was what transformed a 300-mile overland trip from Calcutta to the Himalayas into what would have been a land and sea voyage thousands of miles long, had the actual destination been Japan.

Bottesini never did visit Japan.
